Parakeets

Beginning May 28, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Memphis Zoo’s will be reopening their immensely popular Birds & Bee’s exhibit. This is an exhibit that any animal lover will appreciate.  It’s also a great way to expose kids to what nature has to offer.

This seasonal exhibit is designed to highlight the current struggles facing North American honeybees and provide an interactive experience in an outdoor aviary. Birds & Bees takes up residence in both the old Spider and Butterfly exhibits. The bee exhibit will feature an up- close look at two busy bee hives. Inside the exhibit, visitors can examine what makes bees special and the role they play in agriculture.

Immediately following the bee presentation, the exhibit moves to the zoo’s outdoor aviary which features approximately 500 budgies, commonly known as parakeets. If you’d like, you can also feed the birds with seed branches that the zoo sells for $1.

If you get the chance, make sure to check it out.  Take pics if you can and share them with the rest of The Meadows.
